Robbery Suspect Who Stole Cash From Save-A-Lot Grocery Store Collapses After Arrest

Lakeland, Florida – On March 7th, at 6:44 p.m., the Lakeland Police Department was dispatched to the Save-a-Lot Grocery Store, 2024 George Jenkins Boulevard in reference to a robbery. A suspect had grabbed a handful of money from the register and fled on foot dropping money as he ran. The suspect was observed near the CVS store and officers attempted to take him into custody. The suspect then resisted arrest and the officers had to use force to take him into custody. During the arrest, officers noticed the suspect had difficulty breathing. Shortly after being on the ground, he reportedly became unresponsive. Officers immediately began life saving measures and notified EMS. The suspect was transported to Lakeland Regional Health and is in guarded condition.

A large police presence was in the area. And the roadway was closed for a substantial period of time.  This is an ongoing investigation and some details may change as the incident is investigated. Police have not released the suspects name.
