Around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11th, PCSO deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the area of Galloway Road and West Bella Vista Street in Lakeland in response to a single-vehicle traffic crash involving a fatality. Preliminary investigation suggests the driver, 25-year-old Danny Villiers of Fort Socrum Village Blvd in Lakeland, was heading south in his 2002 blue Toyota Celica on Galloway Rd approaching the intersection with West Bella Vista St when for unknown reasons he veered into the northbound lane and then off onto the grassy shoulder. He appears to have quickly overcorrected when he left the roadway, and slide sideways, then strike a chain link fence and a tree. It does not appear he was wearing a seat belt, as he was partially ejected through the windshield. Deputies performed CPR until Polk Fire Rescue arrived on scene but he was unable to be revived. Impairment may be a factor. He was the only occupant of the car. The investigation is ongoing.
