The PCSO Traffic Unit is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred in the Bradley area of Lakeland Saturday morning. Preliminary information so far is as follows:
Around 10:20 a.m. this morning, Saturday, August 11, 2018, a 2008 black Nissan X-Terra being driven by 17-year-old Gavin Boles of Mulberry was heading southbound on SR 37 near Radar Road when, due to water on the roadway, it hydroplaned into the path of a 2018 silver Mitsubishi Mirage that was heading northbound, being driven by 19-year-old Destiny Nichols of Bradenton.
The occupants of both vehicles were all wearing their seatbelts and the airbags deployed.
Nichols was transported to LRHMC with serious injuries. She is in critical condition. She was the only occupant of her vehicle. Gavin and his passenger, who is his 13-year-old sister Gwendolyn, were not injured. They were offered treatment on-scene by PCFR but refused treatment.
Weather and driver inexperience are both thought to be factors in the crash. It was raining at the time. SR 37 was reduced to one lane of travel during the investigation, and deputies assisted by routing traffic around it.
