Lake Wales Suspect Sought After Assaulting Elderly Grandfather

Lake Wales, Florida – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking Jade Monday, 20 years old, for physically assaulting his grandfather (71).

The incident occurred in the early evening hours of December 1, 2017. The suspect reportedly got into an altercation with his grandparents at the family home on Chelette Manor, Lake Wales. The grandparents did not want to let Monday use a vehicle. Monday had just recently been released from jail after being arrested for marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence.

During a struggle between, the grandfather and Monday, the grandmother slipped and fell on the neighbors driveway. The grandfather saw this and went to render aid to the grandmother, who was bleeding profusely from a wound to the back of the head. At this time Monday allegedly struck the grandfather in the back of the head while he was providing aid to his wife.

Monday then allegedly walked away and left the scene only to return a few minutes later. Again he, Monday, reported walked up behind the grandfather, who was rendering aid to his wife and on the phone with 911, and punched him again, this time on the right ear. This punch caused a laceration to the grandfathers ear that required medical attention and a few stitches to close up at Lakeland Regional Health.

A neighbor witnessed the incident and provided a sworn recorded statement. A Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy who arrived first on scene found the grandmother on the ground. The deputy was rendering aid to the grandmother when Monday approached him from the shadows. The deputy reportedly noticed that Monday was making incoherent statements and he kept attempting to approach the injured subjects. The deputy attempted to detain Monday due to the suspicious nature of the incident and the incoherent behavior. Monday and the deputy struggled and Monday was able to flee the scene.

Monday entered another residence, without permission, and attempted to have a couple drive him away, but they refused knowing that Monday had a past drug problem. According to the couple Monday had a bag full of shoes and a large sword. Monday never threatened the couple. Eventually leaving the residence.

Deputies charged Monday, by affidavit, with two counts of Domestic Violence Battery on a victim over 65. He was also charged with one count of resisting arrest. He was also charged with armed trespassing in a dwelling for having entered a residence without permission while armed with a sword.

Monday was not captured at the time of this incident. If you know of or see the suspect he may be armed with a sword. Contact local law enforcement immediately.
